Normally new Version of Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server release in every six months. for Ubuntu normal releases you get free security updates for at least 9 months on the desktop and server.
LTS is an abbreviation for “Long Term Support”. A new Ubuntu LTS version is released in every two years, good news is there is no extra fee for the LTS version and you will get the five years support for both Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server.
