Can not Access Share Folder in Windows XP from Windows 10 PC


This error occurs due to security issue with file sharing protocol, usually when you sharing a folder with Windows XP, it is uses the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol v1 or less version. SMB1 is outdated less secure version and by default Windows 10 does not use the SMB1, therefore you can not access the share folders from Windows 10 PC unless you enable the SMB1.


How to Enable SMB1 in Windows 10

Before you enable the SMB1 remember it is not secure any more. Read the Microsoft Security Article for details.


  • Open the Programs and Features window and click on [Turn Windows features on or off]

  • Select the SMB1/CIFS Client from opened window.

  • Finally give some moment to enable the feature and you may give the reboot to OS for accurate results.
  • Now you can access the share folder without any issues.
